Surviving kindergarten

Surviving Kindergarten with a storytelling handbook is weaved around a story-based syllabus and contains lesson plans based on 14 engaging stories, which are selected to meet the needs and interests of pre-primary school children and at the same time they are in accordance with the Kindergarten curriculum. Each story provides a springboard to a wide range of related language learning activities, which bear cross-curricular links to Maths, Art, Geography, Music, Drama, and STEM and cater for different intelligences and diverse learning needs. With this storytelling handbook we aspire to provide new teachers of English at pre-primary level with valuable practical help, while at the same time to remind more experienced ones the real value of a story-based approach.

Μαρία Δουλγκέρη (Συγγραφέας)

Maria Doulgeri is an English language teacher. She holds a BA in English Language and Literature (AUTh), a BA in History and Archeology (AUTh) and a MEd specialising in Educational Technology (Hellenic Open University). She has worked both in private and public sectors, both in secondary and primary education (and recently in pre-primary education). She is currently working in a State Primary School and a Kindergarten in Northern Greece. She is passionate about teaching young and very young learners, employing engaging and enjoyable tools, such as digital tools, drama, Art, crafts, but most of all the compelling power of storytelling.

Αγγελική Βορεοπούλου (Συγγραφέας)

Angeliki Voreopoulou is an English language teacher, writer and storyteller. She holds a BA in English and English Language (University of Kent at Canterbury) and an MEd in TEFL (University of Bristol). She is currently working in a State Primary school in Northern Greece. She believes that students, especially the very young ones, can learn so much better when introduced to colour, music, games and storytelling. Angeliki is also the author of several picture books for young learners of English. Her main interests include storytelling, visual materials and the use of immersive technologies into the classroom. She shares her practice in seminars, talks and workshops.
